A Few Words from Gary About Luckyman
When I first set out to record this album, I found the concept to be a remembrance of my life’s journey to this point. I know I am a little late in the game, but hey, those are the cards I’ve been dealt. No complaints here, God has his plan. Looking back, I can see the road I have traveled more clearly with its starts and stops, its forks, its dead ends which required U-turns, its highs and lows and its smooth and rough moments. All adding up to where I am now. If someone were to ask me to describe the journey of life in one word, my answer would be “bittersweet”.
I value to an extreme and hold very dear, the friends I grew up with and new ones I’ve made along the way. To this day i hold no grudges or any ill will toward anyone. I have found that sort of mindset to be more disabling than helpful to one’s time on this earth. In my life I have met and mingled with people from all walks of life. From salt of the earths to rock stars. Guess what? They all pull their pants on the same way. No matter what someone does for a living, that’s what they do, and, it all counts. Some may be considered luckier than others, but that concept can be measured by one’s own point of view. I know my luck started by being born into a family that i would not trade for any amount of health or wealth. Raised in the small town of Seaford, VA. By two wonderful parents and 3 siblings that are not only blood, but best friends, dad’s one weekly paycheck and mom guarding the nest made for a blessed family. As kids, we always got what we needed and some of what we wanted. Not a bad formula. Looking back, I feel nothing but appreciation and respectful for the way we were raised. Thank you, mom and dad.
The songs that I have chosen for this album speak to me in ways of love, loss, hope and god. All derived from my own experiences to this point. Hopefully, this collection will move you through the emotions of fun to melancholy and make you reflect back on your own lives and maybe feel a sense of “yeah, I’ve been there”. Sit back with a glass of wine or a nice bourbon on the rocks and follow the journey.
I’ve had a pretty good run on this planet so far and I’ve also been blessed to be surrounded by people I love and whom love me. Add to that, the ability to do what I’ve always wanted to do…music. All in all, I truly consider myself to be, a “lucky man”.
